About Me
Shane Becker, LCSW is a psychotherapist in New York with over 10 years of experience. A graduate of NYU’s Silver School of Social Work, he has worked throughout the five Burroughs with a wide range of clients specializing in gay men and “nontraditional” relationships.
“My focus is to be a compassionate guide and partner on your journey. You are the expert in your life and I will honor that in assisting you in reaching your goals. I work psychodynamically, pulling from various therapeutic modalities as fits your specific situation. Therapy isn’t a cookie cutter, we’ll make a plan unique to you.”
“I specialize in supporting the LGBTQ community through the complexities of life transitions, trauma, relationship issues (open? poly? I got you) as well as the nuances of anxiety, depression, PTSD and other mental health issues. Through my experience I have gained a deep understanding of diverse identities and work to create a safe space for exploration and healing. I will always honor your experience, and challenge you in compassionate but real ways.”
Therapy Services:
While I specialize in helping people in the LGBTQ community, I have a long history of working with people from all backgrounds. Together we can work to help you through all types of concerns - relationship concerns, breakups/separations, communication issues, life transitions, coming out, depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, family stress, unresolved issues from childhood, trauma, career change or loss. “Nontraditional” is not my favorite way to describe the complexities of relationships other than monogamous, but you get the point and we can gripe about it while we work.
Over the past ten years I’ve worked in various capacities within the nonprofit sector, being in leadership/director roles at The Jericho Project over the past six years. I currently serve as the Director of Clinical Therapy for the agency while maintaining a caseload of clients. I approach my work from a psychodynamic, evidence-based framework and pull from modalities such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, utilize skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy, among others. I believe in utilizing a person centered and solution focused perspective to help you achieve your goals.

Supervision/
consultation
My approach to supervision is very similar to my approach to therapy. I aim to create a collaborative relationship where we discuss clinical cases with curiosity and with the goal of moving through treatment barriers. We will explore not just your relationships to your clients, but also the dynamic between us and how that can parallel itself within your work.
I have years of experience supervising clinicians and currently lead a team of clinical therapists in my role at the Jericho Project. Beyond that I run a clinical supervision group for the agency, allowing my colleagues to dig more deeply into clinical concerns and issues while collecting hours towards higher licensure (LCSW, LMHC, etc).
Supervision and Consultation services are offered both individually and in group format.
